After the TegraTite Waterproofing System has been installed, does the bentonite ever dehydrate due to drought, lack of ground water or other drying conditions?

The bentonite in TegraTite is dry initially. In our standard backfilled-wall system, the bentonite is installed in contact with the concrete and the seams are taped closed. Thus, the HDPE is the primary waterproofing membrane. Only after the bentonite is exposed to water will it become activated, and then only the bentonite in close proximity to the water. If these levels decrease due to drought or another reason, the bentonite will have the same moisture content as the surrounding soil. After the bentonite is again hydrated, it will expand and reseal.
